Meridian LES
Laboratory execution system

A laboratory execution system that turns analytical methods into guided, step-by-step procedures — with every measurement, calculation and decision on record — and exchanges work and results with a LIMS.

Instrument readings and the LIMS connection are simulated in the demo and clearly labelled as such. This is a demonstration application and a customizable starting point — not a customer deployment.

What the demo shows

Highlights

Methods as executable procedures

Instructions, checklists, instruments, measurements with units, calculations with acceptance limits, and conditional steps that only appear when a result is out of limits.

Method authoring with safeguards

Formulas are checked against earlier steps so typos are caught before anyone runs the method. Authors cannot approve their own methods; QA reviews and publishes each version.

Step-by-step guided execution

Analysts see the instruction, acceptance criteria and results so far. Every step is saved as they go — they can stop and pick up exactly where they left off.

Exceptions raised at the moment they happen

Out-of-limit calculations are flagged immediately; the analyst must explain what happened and an exception is raised for the reviewer to assess.

Review, reports and audit trail

Reviewers see every value with who recorded it and when. Printable execution reports, and an append-only audit trail with old value, new value and reason.

Works with the LIMS

Test assignments arrive from SpectraLIMS and approved results are returned, with every message logged. (In the demo the connection is a clearly marked simulated adapter.)

Meet Meridian LES, a laboratory execution system that turns analytical methods into guided, step-by-step procedures with every measurement, calculation, and decision on record. The lab manager starts on the dashboard. Her own work, Executions in Progress and Awaiting Review, approvals over the last two weeks, open exceptions, and instruments that need attention. New work arrives from SpectraLIMS, the lab's LIMS.

In this demo, the connection is a clearly marked simulated adapter. SpectraLIMS releases a test assignment, and with one click, it becomes a work item with its sample, assigned to Emma. Methods live in the library as executable procedures. Loss on drying is on version 2.

Instructions, checklists, instruments, measurements with units, calculations with acceptance limits, and a conditional step that only appears when the result is out of limits. Using a method takes minutes. Sofia names the new method, then adds its steps, the analytical balance, three weighings that read from it, and a calculation with an upper limit. The formula is checked against the codes of earlier steps, so a typo is caught before anyone runs the method.

She sets the reportable result and submits the version for approval. Sofia can't approve her own method. Daniel, from Quality Assurance, reviews it and publishes it. From now on, analysts run exactly this version, and every execution keeps a reference to it.

Emma opens her work from the dashboard. The procedure guides her step-by-step with the instruction, the acceptance criteria, and her results so far, always in view. She selects a calibrated pH meter, works through the calibration checklist, and takes her readings. Instrument readings are simulated in this demo, and clearly labeled as such.

She can stop at any point. Every step is saved as she goes, and the dashboard shows her progress. When she comes back, she picks up exactly where she left off. The replicate she types in differs too much from the first reading.

The LES calculates the agreement and flags it out of limits at once. She can't continue without explaining what happened, and an exception is raised for the reviewer. The mean pH is within limits. She records her observations, checks the summary, with the result, the simulated readings, and the exception for the reviewer, and submits the execution for review.

From here on, the results are locked. Daniel reviews it. Every recorded value with who recorded it and when, the calculations with their inputs, and the exception, which he must assess before he can approve. Approving completes the work and returns the result to SpectraLIMS.

Every execution has a polished, printable report, the sample and the method version, instruments with their calibration, each step's result, the calculations, exceptions, the review, and an audit summary. The audit trail captures every change, who, when, the old and the new value, and the reason. Entries are never edited or deleted. On the SpectraLIMS page, every message in and out is logged with its payload.

Test assignments received, acknowledgments, status updates, and the approved result. Instruments are part of the picture, too. A balance past its calibration date simply can't be selected in an execution. Meridian LES.

Guided execution, built-in data integrity, and a complete record of every test. Built with AppMaker.
